Applying Splits to Revenue Items
- Matthew Garrett
When an Application is created a default revenue split template is applied to it. The revenue split template shows how the money should be divided. This article shows how to change the assigned template.
In the Application Revenue screen you can see all of the revenue items that have been attached to an application;
To apply a revenue split to the item select it then either double click on it or select Edit. The Revenue item will then be displayed;
Click on the Split Tab
The default split is applied to all revenue items.
Click on the Dropdown selecter and choose the correct split.
The Revenue Split section will then show how the money is to be allocated.
There are 3 example templates defined.
In this template 40% of the revenue is allocated to the application broker and 60% allocated to the Enterprise.
In this template 55% of the revenue is allocated to the Enterprise, 35% is allocated to the application broker and 10% is allocated to the referrer.
In this template a the default referrer will receive a fixed $250 payment whilst the remainder will be divided with 60% going to the Enterprise and 40% going to the application broker.
The split templates are maintained in TFS Administration.
This article shows you how to create a Revenue Split Template. The following topics are covered.
Adding Items to a Revenue Split Template
Creating the template
- In TFS Administration \ Templates select Rev. Split Tpl.
- Click in the Templates section of the screen.
- Click on the New button.
- Enter the Name for the Split.
- Click OK.
The template will then be added. Because there is no allocation of the revenue the Complete? field is not ticked
Adding Items to a Revenue Split Template
For a Revenue Split Template to be complete, the total Revenue Split Item amounts must equal 100%. This can be achieved with a combination of Minimum Splits, Fixed Amount Splits and Percentage splits.
- Minimum splits can ONLY be created at the first level. Minimum splits cannot be created within a Group Split.
- TFS will not allow more than 100% of a revenue split to be assigned.
- The Revenue Split dialog includes the Specific Entity field. Selecting the Specific Entity popup button () will display the Select Application Specific Entity dialog.
If [Specific Entity] is chosen, the Entity field becomes available and users can use the Search dialog to find an entity.
An end split is a set value of percentage. A group split is a set value or percentage that will be further subdivided into other end or group splits
Adding an End Split
When you select Yes the Revenue Split dialog is displayed as below;
Click the button next to Specific Entity and select Referrer
In the example below you can see that Fixed Amount has been toggled to Yes and a value of $200 has been entered
When the OK button is pressed the Revenue Split item is added to the Template.
This is showing that $200 dollars of the revenue will be paid to the Referrer of the deal.
The rest of the revenue will be divided with a Group Split.
Adding a Group Split
With Revenue selected click on New and select No to add a group split. The Revenue Split dialog is displayed as below;
The Percentage Split is automatically shown at 100%. You can change this if required. This is a 100% of the remaining revenue after the end split has been taken for the Default Referrer.
When the OK button is pressed the item is added to the split template.
In the example above you can see that there is an item in the template section with 100% next to it. This is showing that 100% of the remaining revenue after the end split is to be divided.
Dividing the Group Split
The Group Split is taking a portion of the revenue to be divided by End Splits or Group Splits. To add a split to a Group Split first click on the the item in the Template window
When you now add subsequent splits they will be against the Group Split as opposed to the Revenue.
In the example above you can see that 2 end splits have been added to the group split. Each of the for 50%. The Complete? now has a because all of the revenue has been allocated.
Below is an example of how the split looks when it is applied.
The total revenue was $1100.
- $200 is to be paid to the Referrer of the deal who was the vendor Big Wheels.
- Take $200 off the total and this leaves $900. This is the value to be divided in the Group split.
- The Broker for the deal receives $450.00
- The Enterprise receives $450.00
You can add Group Splits to a Group Split but no further splits can be applied to an End Split.
