Framework Sales Advice Upgrade v7.1

The following guide is designed to upgrade Framework Sales Advice Management. 

Framework Sales Advice Management must be upgraded on ALL systems that are currently running the application

Pre-Requisite Checklist

Step 1 - Shutdown Framework Sales Advice

Before proceeding with the upgrade, Framework Sales Advice Management needs to be shutdown so that no user can access the system during the upgrade period.

Shutting down Framework Sales advice Management logs users out of the system in an orderly fashion.

On all systems running Framework Sales Advice Management:

  1. Open Framework Configuration Utility (Start > All Programs > Insula Software > Framework Configuration Utility)

  2. Logon to the system.

  3. Select the Shutdown tab.

     

  4. Under the Sales Advice Availability group, enter the Sales Advice Management shutdown details.

  5. Click the Shutdown Sales Advice button.

  6. Click the OK button.

Step 2 - Backup Framework Sales Advice Management Database

Depending on your deployment model, your server may contain either: 

  • Sales Advice Master database (e.g., FworkSQLSAMaster).

Or

  • Sales Advice database (e.g., FworkSQLSA).
    AND
    Sales Advice Master database (e.g., FworkSQLSAMaster).

In preparation for the upgrade, all databases associated with Framework Sales Advice Management MUST be backed up.

Backup Framework Sales Advice Management Master Database

  1. Open SQL Server Management Studio (Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (or above) > SQL Server Management Studio).

  2. Connect to the required server.

  3. In the Object Explorer pane, expand: [server name] > Databases

  4. Right-click on the Framework Sales Advice Master Management database (e.g., FworkSQLSAMaster) and select Tasks > Back Up. The Back Up Database (General Page) dialog will be displayed.

  5. Specify a Name and Destination for the backup file, if different from the default name and destination details.
    Write down the name and destination details

  6. Select the Options page.

  7. Tick: Overwrite all existing backup sets

  8. Tick: Verify backup when finished

  9. Click the OK button. The backup will be performed to the selected destination.

  10. Click the OK button to close the message prompt.

  11. Close SQL Server Management Studio.

  12. Browse to the backup location (as detailed in Point 5 above).

  13. Copy the backup file to a secure location. A typical example is to backup the database file (.bak file) to the following folder location: \[fw folder]\Service\fworkSAMasterBackup_[todaysDate]

Backup Framework Sales Advice Management Database

  1. Open SQL Server Management Studio (Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (or above) > SQL Server Management Studio).

  2. Connect to the required server.

  3. In the Object Explorer pane, expand: [server name] > Databases

  4. Right-click on the Framework Sales Advice Management database (e.g., FworkSQLSalesAdvice) and select Tasks > Back Up. The Back Up Database (General Page) dialog will be displayed.

  5. Specify a Name and Destination for the backup file, if different from the default name and destination details.
    Write down the name and destination details

  6. Select the Options page.

  7. Tick: Overwrite all existing backup sets

  8. Tick: Verify backup when finished

  9. Click the OK button. The backup will be performed to the selected destination.

  10. Click the OK button to close the message prompt.

  11. Close SQL Server Management Studio.

  12. Browse to the backup location (as detailed in Point 5 above).

Step 3 - Upgrade Framework Sales Advice Management Database


CRITICAL

- This MUST be performed on the server that hosts the Framework Sales Advice Management database. 
- The system where the data is being upgraded MUST be set with Australian regional settings.
- The Framework Sales Advice Management database must have previously been upgraded to v7.0.0. Contact your Framework administrator if you are not running the Framework Sales Advice Management v7.0.0 database.

The following procedure upgrades the Framework Sales Advice Management database(s).

If during the upgrade process 'Not Responding' appears in the title bar of the Framework Sales Advice Management Upgrade software, this is due to the system performing very long and CPU-intensive calculations. This message will disappear once the upgrade has been completed

Framework Sales Advice Management 7.1.1 Master Database Upgrade

Framework Sales Advice Management 7.1.0.01 Upgrade

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Browse to: \[fw folder]\Upgrade\Upgrade_v7_1_0_01\SalesAdvice\

  3. Double-click the FworkSAMasterUpgrade.exe file. The Start Upgrade confirmation prompt will be displayed.

  4. Click Yes to perform the upgrade.

  5. If the upgrade was successful, a successfully completed message prompt will be displayed.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click Close.

Backup Framework Sales Advice Management Database

Following the instructions in Step 2, create a separate backup of the database at this point.

Framework Sales Advice Management 7.1.1.03 Upgrade

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Browse to: \[fw folder]\Upgrade\Upgrade_v7_1_1_03\SalesAdvice\

  3. Double-click the FworkSAMasterUpgrade.exe file. The Start Upgrade confirmation prompt will be displayed.

  4. Click Yes to perform the upgrade.

  5. If the upgrade was successful, a successfully completed message prompt will be displayed.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click Close.

Unsuccessful Database Upgrade

If the database upgrade was unsuccessful, restore the backup database file. Refer to your Microsoft SQL Server documentation for more information.

Framework Sales Advice Management 7.1.1 Database Upgrade

Framework Sales Advice Management 7.1.0.01 Upgrade

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Browse to: \[fw folder]\Upgrade\Upgrade_v7_1_0_01\SalesAdvice\

  3. Double-click the FworkSAUpgrade.exe file. The Start Upgrade confirmation prompt will be displayed.

  4. Click Yes to perform the upgrade.

  5. If the upgrade was successful, a successfully completed message prompt will be displayed.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click Close.

Framework Sales Advice Management 7.1.1.03 Upgrade

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Browse to: \[fw folder]\Upgrade\Upgrade_v7_1_1_03\SalesAdvice\

  3. Double-click the FworkSAUpgrade.exe file. The Start Upgrade confirmation prompt will be displayed.

  4. Click Yes to perform the upgrade.

  5. If the upgrade was successful, a successfully completed message prompt will be displayed.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click Close.

Unsuccessful Database Upgrade

If the database upgrade was unsuccessful, restore the backup database file. Refer to your Microsoft SQL Server documentation for more information.

Step 4 - Update Framework Sales Advice Management

On all systems running Framework Sales Advice Management:

Uninstall The Existing Version Of Framework Sales Advice Management

In Microsoft Windows XP

  1. Open Add or Remove Programs (Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs). The Add or Remove Programs dialog will be displayed.

  2. From the Currently Installed Programs list, select the previous version of Framework Sales Advice Management.

  3. Click the Remove button. The application will be removed.

In Microsoft Windows Vista/Windows 7

  1. Open Uninstall a Program (Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program). The Uninstall or Change a Program list will be displayed.

  2. Select the previous version of Framework Sales Advice Management.

  3. Click the Uninstall button. The application will be removed.

Install The Latest Version Of Framework Sales Advice Management

On all systems running Framework Sales Advice Management:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Browse to: \[fw folder]\Setup\Framework Sales Advice Management\v7.1\Setup\

  3. Double-click Framework Sales Advice Management.msi and follow the on-screen prompts.

Step 5 - Restart Framework Sales Advice

After finishing the database and system upgrade, Framework Sales Advice Management needs to be restarted so that users can access the system.

On all systems running Framework Sales Advice Management:

  1. Open Framework Configuration Utility (Start > All Programs > Insula Software > Framework Configuration Utility)

  2. Logon to the system.

  3. Select the Shutdown tab.

     

  4. Under the Sales Advice Availability group, click the Restart Now button.

  5. Click the OK button.

Step 6 - Test Framework Sales Advice Management

On all systems running Framework Sales Advice Management:

Start Framework Sales Advice Management

  1. Start Framework Sales Advice Management (Start > All Programs > Insula Software > Framework Sales Advice Management).

  2. Log on to the system.

Step 7 - User Acceptance Tests

The following is a list of view only tests that must be performed after upgrading the application.
These tests must be performed:
Hosted Environments: After the first workstation/client system has been upgraded.
Local Deployments: On every system that Framework Sales Advice Management was upgraded

Log in as a user other than a super-user





Go to Client List Screen

- Toggle 'Show All?' to Yes

- Select a client

Step 8 - Re-Synchronise Framework Sales Advice Management

To fully confirm the connectivity between Framework Sales Advice Management and Framework, it is highly recommended that data be synchronised between the two applications.

The following requires re-synchronising: 

  • Document Templates

  • VPB Versions

  • House Product

  • Static Data
