Standard Security Implementation

Insula have developed a standard security data suite that is designed to represent common industry staff structures and roles.

Benefits Of Implementing Standard Security

The standard security suite provides direction when implementing security for Framework. It can also reduce the amount of set up and configuration work as the content should account for a large percentage of what would be standard group settings.

Planning

When implementing new security, the following should be considered;

  • Which staff member(s) is responsible for customising/designing each of the security groups.
  • A thorough review of the Framework standard security setting reports in consultation with the relevant department Manager. Mark up any necessary changes to the reports resulting from this review.
  • A decision on the dates that groups will be cut-over. This process should be staggered.
  • A determination of the go-live date for each group.
  • Ensure that adequate internal support is scheduled and available for the cut-over to support any issues raised by staff as they begin to use Framework with the security structure.

Implementation

Insula recommends the following steps be taken when implementing security into Framework:

  • Implement the standard data into a test environment for configuration.
  • Configure the groups in the test environment and co-ordinate, with Insula, the cut-over of the data into the live environment.
  • When moving users into their new groups for the cut-over, stagger the process, moving one or two groups at a time and leaving a day or two between each move. This will prevent the support staff being bombarded with issues and requests from staff and allow any identified issues to be resolved before implementing the next group.
  • Notify all staff well before the intended implementation date and again closer to the date.
  • Ensure all relevant support staff have been trained in administering the security module of Framework (if they are to make changes to the group settings).
  • Inform Insula of the go-live date.

Ongoing Management

Periodically review the user groups and staff roles to ensure that any company role or process changes are accounted for.
