TFS 2016 Version 12 brings a new concept of entity ownership. This can be applied to all entities. By default when creating a client if you set the client broker the owner will be assigned as the broker and this will also be applied to new client contacts. If you add a contact who is 'owned' by a different broker their ownership will not be changed.

Non client entities (Accountants, Vendors etc) can be owned by one broker whilst the entities contacts can be owned by a different broker (e.g There is a car sales dealership that is owned by one broker but there are several sales contacts that could be owned by different brokers. You can assign ownership of entities to non brokers (eg Owned by the Enterprise)

Ownership used in the Tools screens, reporting and Smart Campaign.

The following business logic is applied to ownership;

  1. When creating a generic entity (such as an accountant, supplier, etc.) the owner will default to Not Applicable
  2. When creating a client contact, the default owner for the contact entity should be the same as the client owner.
  3. When creating an entity contact for another contact, the owner for the new contact entity should be the same as the parent contact
  4. When the broker for a client is changed, and the owner of the client is the same as the original broker, ownership is changed automatically to the new broker
